Thierry Damerval has served as Inserm’s Deputy Director-General since 2011 after holding the position of Deputy Director-General for Strategy from 2007 to 2011. A former student of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint Cloud, he holds an agrégation (high-level teaching diploma) in physical sciences and a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Paris Diderot. Thierry Damerval began his career in the bacterial physiology unit at the Institut Pasteur.
In 1993, he joined CEA as assistant to the director of life sciences and manager of the Cellular Organisation and Function Programme. He went on to occupy various executive positions within CEA until 2005. Between June 2005 and January 2006, he was technical adviser in charge of research and innovation in the French Prime Minister’s Office and then director of the Office of the Deputy Minister for Higher Education and Research until May 2007.
Thierry Damerval is a Knight of the Legion of Honour, a Knight in the National Order of Merit and a Knight of the Order of Academic Palms.
